Should Arsenal be moving now to secure Simeone for next season?

arsene-wenger-thearsenalblogArsene Wenger is in the final year of his current contract with Arsenal, and many of us would like to see the back of him before the start of the 2017-18 season. Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone has been touted as a potential replacement for the Frenchman and may be just who Arsenal need if they are to undergo a renaissance.

Recent reports suggest that Inter Milan are ready to spend huge sums on bringing their former player back to the San Siro, though. And if Arsenal doesn’t want to miss out on one of the hottest managers in the world they should act fast.

Arsenal have started the season fairly strongly, but for Wenger to deserve a new contract he really needs to deliver the Premier League title this term. Bitcoin online bookmakers like Sportsbet favour Arsenal to prevail in their upcoming match against Bournemouth, but as the festive schedule rolls around Wenger needs to keep the pace with the big guns while also rotating his key players to avoid injuries. This is where Arsenal could hit a stumbling block on their quest for a fourth title under Wenger.

Although we have a lot to thank Wenger for, there is a growing sense of unrest among supporters who wish to see things shaken up a bit at the club. In recent years it’s been Wenger’s stubbornness that’s held Arsenal back, and at times we’ve desperately needed a manager with a more ruthless nature. Remember when we came close to signing Luis Suarez the season before he won the Golden Boot? Apparently Wenger had the money to prise the Uruguayan away from Anfield but the deal never came to pass.

Instead of having one of the most prolific strikers in Europe at his disposal, Wenger has made do with Olivier Giroud and hasn’t come close to claiming the Premier League title. Even in the summer transfer window this year he stated his intent about searching for a world-class striker and settled for Lucas Perez – a player that he has only used three times in the league so far.

The introduction of a manager like Simeone would spell a turning of the tides at the Emirates, and the Argentine would most certainly shake things up. The Atletico boss has managed to turn his current club into a worthy force in La Liga, and one that can challenge up there with heavyweights Barcelona and Real Madrid. Simeone won the league with Atletico in 2013-14, and also came runner-up in the Champions League twice, in 2013-14 and 2015-16.
As many of the other top clubs in England have brought in new elite managers, Arsenal should perhaps follow suit if they want to keep up. But with Inter reportedly Simeone’s club of choice, the Gunners need to act fast if they want to secure the 46-year-old’s services.

Should Arsenal swoop now and offer Simeone a contract? Or should they wait until the end of the season to assess the situation? It certainly is a predicament.

  1. I think that we should take a good look at Unai Emery (the PSG manager). He’s young, his team plays attractive football and seems level headed.
