Should Arsenal replace Podolski with Chelsea’s Lukaku?

It seems that the Arsenal and Germany striker Lukas Podolski is determined on leaving the Emirates this summer with a host of other European giants waiting in the wings. Podolski is said to want to leave because of the lack of consistent game time and opportunities to play as the central striker under Wenger.

It’s thought that Galatasaray are leading the chase to capture the German international because of a hefty wage packet they have put together at the club. They have also reassured him that he will be the number one striker and first choice no matter what, which is bound to attract his interest as he prefers playing as a striker despite his frequent goal droughts throughout his career. Juventus, Bayer Leverkusen and Anzhi are thought to be interested but Podolski feels he would get the better deal in Turkey.

Arsene Wenger would also prefer to sell Podolski as he could free up some funds to spend big on a big name striker to fill the void that has been left by Van Persie for the last season. Bad news for Arsenal fans though as it seems Gervinho will be staying at the club if Podolski is sold, Arshavin will also be heading for the exit which isn’t much of a surprise.

So who could Arsenal be lining up to replace the German? Some of the papers are reporting that Carlos Vela could make a return to the Emirates, I feel that is unlikely though as he is not a big name striker who can bag the goals like Henry and Van Persie used to. Perhaps Romelu Lukaku will be allowed a years loan at Arsenal, this would be a perfect move for all parties.

Lukaku would surely enjoy a spell at a top club like Arsenal where he can accelerate his ability while competing with some of the top players in Europe. Chelsea could offload him for another season and be reassured that his development is well taken care of and Arsenal would be getting a young striker who looks like the perfect package.

Do you think Lukaku is the better option? And would Chelsea let him come to us?

  1. he is not going to leave. reports say they are offering 12mil. i will sell only if they give me 20 mil. he himself said he is happy here and also he is on a long term contract…. his chances of going- close to nil!

  2. I would take lukaku in an instance but only on a permanent basis not to give him a better stage to enhance his chelsea career. However it would not be as replacement for podolski it would be as replacement for chamakh. If anyone from the left side needs to be moved on it should be gervinho as he only has a year left on his contract and just hasn’t lived up to his expectations. With arshavin also going that would free up space for ryo to come info the squad or even vela to come back. I would also like to see campbell come into the squad to add depth to the flanks with perhaps chamberlain becoming the understudy to cazorla in the centre as a rosicky is also in his last year and just doesn’t seem able to give a full season. However if there is a sniff that fabregas is available I would bring him back to add options to the attacking midfield. We also could do with another holding midfielder to protect the younger players like wilshire coquelin ramsey and frimpong from over playing. Someone like alonso alongside arteta would be great not too young to hamper the progression of those young players just mentioned. A right back to replace sagna a centre back to replace djourou and a versatile defender to replace squillaci and santos. Finally a keeper to replace fabianski.

  3. Dear Mr Wenger, I’m a Nigerian lover of Arsenal all my life, please Help me and my friends get Happy next season. All we need you to do is to sign either Benteke, Aubemeyang or cavani(if possible). And also bring Song back, if that’s not possible, bring wanyama, capoue or tiotte.

Please wenger, our team is solid. We av great players. Please solve the obvious problem sire.

    Yours faithfully.
    Ehisuan.
