Will Diaby ever play for Arsenal again? by Ash

You may or may not have heard the latest news which has been reported regarding Arsenal’s Abou Diaby, but the most recent statement to come out of the club regarding the Frenchman’s situation is that he will not be available for selection until March 2014 at the earliest.

Originally the injury he first had was meant to rule him out until November of this year and if he recovered well then it was quite possible he would be involved in and around the first team squad once again. However the setback, which is also another cruciate ligament problem, has now ruled the midfielder out until March, posing the question if Diaby will actually ever feature for Arsenal again, especially as the Gunners have so many talented midfield players like Ramsey, Wilshere, Arteta and Flamini in his position.

Diaby has always been an injury prone player; you don’t need to tell anyone who has followed football for the last 5 years or so to tell you that because it’s a fairly well-known fact. It’s one injury setback after another for the Frenchman and on the occasional chance he does build up his fitness to a competitive ability, it isn’t long until he injures himself somewhere else and we are back to square one.

Last season was a good example, when he performed magnificently against Liverpool in the early stages of the Premier league campaign, yet then injured himself a few weeks later and failed to really have an input on the rest of the campaign for Arsenal.

It’s a great shame to see such a talented player fall repetitively down each time he attempts to build himself back up, but I think that the majority of Arsenal fans agree now that either Diaby should change his contract to a pay as you play deal, or just retire from the game completely because it’s absolutely ludicrous that Arsenal pay him so much to spend the majority of his time on the treatment table.

In my opinion Diaby is one of the club’s most talented midfielders, as well as in the Premier League. I think he has the potential to be better than Yaya Toure and on par with someone like Vieira, however his injuries just haven’t made this dream become possible and now with the latest setback, could it be the end of the road for Diaby’s Arsenal career?

    1. He has the potential to be as good as viera if not for his injuries, but I wouldn’t give up on him

  1. I think we are being too harsh with Abou here. He has the pontential of surpassing Yaya and even Viera. His injuries are not self inflicted. he gets injured as he try hard to help push our ARSENAL in times of trouble. His love of ARSENAL has always been the cause of his injuries, we should not now turn our backs on him.
