Wenger Admits Doubting The Squad. Has This Changed His Transfer Policy?

The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted questioning the team’s ambition and attitude in previous years, but according to the Frenchman, despite things were going really bad this season, he never doubted that the Gunners would come through.

Everybody else doubted Arsenal’s ability to bounce back into form at a certain point, so it’s a bit hard to believe that Wenger didn’t, especially given the disastrous transfer window events from last summer.

“Of course you question yourself, and you question what you can do about it, even more than you do when all is going well,” Wenger said.

“When things are going well the players the press and the fans all have more certainty, and so it’s easier. But it’s these moments when experience helps, because it’s important not to question and change the wrong things.

“Part of the job is to make decisions, and in the end somebody has to do that. You have to be decisive – it’s better to make a bad decision than no decision at all.”

“Personally I never question the attitude of this team, which I may have done in some previous years.

“But this season, never. I’ve always returned home thinking this team will never give up, they are always ready for a fight.

“I must say Robin van Persie has done an outstanding job of leading the team, as have many players – people like [Thomas] Vermaelen, [Mikel] Arteta, [Alex] Song, [Bacary] Sagna.

“I don’t want to leave people out, but the senior players have played a big part in setting the tone in the squad.”

“We have shown an exceptional response, togetherness and belief,” he continued. “I am very proud of that because certainly the way we came back against Tottenham strengthened that belief and also created optimism around the team again with our fans.

“That result also helped us to then come back against Liverpool and Newcastle. So it was a good test for us, and will continue to be until the end of the season.”

Nobody knows how, but Wenger managed to bring the club back from a very bad place. The best thing about the season which is about to come to an end is that Wenger finally realized that you can’t do anything without a few big names, and now that seems to have motivated him enough to transfer Podolski and bid for a few other top stars

  1. People always say Wenger is trying by bringing d team to winning 4rm early poor performance but I’ve always question dis, who have taken d team to dat poor & bad positions? Is he not d same Wenger? dat’s why I’ll continue to respect Sir Alex Ferguson dan him, very wise a man.

  2. AW ps just say, They ar yet to overcome the plethora of high profile teams the like of MAN,U and co. Ps go to the market to bolster our occasional drifting morale.

  3. Were you writing about that interview?

The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted questioning the team’s ambition and attitude in previous years, but according to the Frenchman, despite things were going really bad this season, he never doubted that the Gunners would come through………

    Then:

“Of course you question yourself, and you question what you can do about it, even more than you do when all is going well,” Wenger said.

  4. Thats stupid, anyone who think we never sign proven players is kidding themselves.i love how arsene does business,it is what other teams around europe do.people think arsene doesnt want to spend but Podolski costs less than Arshavin so wat transfer policy change are you on about.Nasri came cheaper and hit the ground running,he was a big name everywhere except in england, but no one said we are changing our transfer policy.Just because our signings dont give the media wet-dreams doesnt mean they are not big names.Look at players like Santos and Martesaker, they were already written off on thier arival.Have a concience for once and stop eating up the arsenal and wenger stereotypes spewed out by the media.
