Wenger Is Happy With The Defence But Gets Ready For Transfers

Arsenal’s manager Arsene Wenger seems to be satisfied with the way the Gunner defence has been playing lately, and said that the defensive performances are continuingly improving even though Arsenal played with no full-back for a while.

“We are stable defensively,” he said. “Our defensive record since the 8-2 defeat at Manchester United has improved tremendously and you could see that again today.

“In the first half we were dominating well but even in the second half when we were under pressure we still kept our shape.

“We got away with one or two difficult situations but there is an improvement there.”

Arsenal left it late to snatch victory against Villa as Yossi Benayoun’s 87th-minute winner proved decisive. Wenger was quick to praise Alex McLeish’s resilient side.

“I have to give credit to Aston Villa, they were not a lower table team with that performance, that is for sure,” he said.

“They have not only shown commitment and spirit but quality. This team can play with a high tempo and if they play like that then they will come up quickly in the table.”

The Frenchman is expected to be on the market for at least one full-back in January, but nobody knows who he’s going to aim at. Speculations say that Vertonghen is the one who is most likely to join thanks to his ability to play on several positions throughout the defensive compartment. What do you think?

  1. Vertonghen can become an instant hit..He is a good player with physical presence, 6+ foot height and very versatile. He can even play along with song in the defensive midfield role. Overall he could blend into the team very well.
