Arsenal’s manager Arsene Wenger is starting to regret his choice to start with Santos against Olympiakos in the last Champions League group stage since he found out that Santos will be out for the rest of the year.

“The bad news we have is that we lost Santos for a while,” Wenger said.

“The ankle injury is more severe than expected. For how long he will be out, I don’t know, but it will be more than three weeks, that’s for sure.

“He is definitely out of the Christmas period.”

“With Gibbs not being available yet we have a problem on both sides, two right full-backs are out and two left-full-backs are out.”

Hopefully Santos will be able to be back after the New Year’s because Arsene Wenger can’t play with 4 centre-backs for much longer and Sagna is not going to be fit any time soon so he could at least cover the right side.

  1. With everton lining up 451 tomorrow for sure we shpuld counteract that by playing 352

    Chesney
    kos per tv
    song arteta
    chamberlain ramsey gervinho
    walcott rvp

this te would easily cope with evertons one up front and the given walcott and chamberlain their chance in the positions they both want would destroy evertons defence.

come on wenger show us u can play a different system

    1. Why not? I had in mind a 4-1-4-1 formation with Song playing deep in front of the back four, but your suggestion looks better.

  2. I would imagine there are some `smart ar**`s`somwhere who will understand and justify Wenger`s reason for playing Vermaelen and Santos against Olympicos, I`m not one of them.

Once in a while Arsene, a very intelligent man, has a rush of blood to the head and makes the most incredible school boy like decisions. This was one.

It`s history now but I do think if he had a stronger and younger number two, who`s advice he respects, he may think twice.

    Bergkamp, Keown, Henry stand up.
