Wenger suggests that Giroud will start on bench on Sunday after all

There is a very well-known saying that goes “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!”, and as Arsenal enter their crucial last game of the season, a very good case could be made for starting with the same team that has taken us over the line for the last three games.

Olivier Giroud missed all three after being suspended, and his replacement Lukas Podolski finally came good with a brace of goals against Wigan, so it would make sense to start with the same forward line this week as well.

But when Wenger originally gave his team news a couple of days ago, he suggested that Giroud’s “enthusiasm” could be useful for the team, which gave fans the idea that the Frenchman may be given his place back, but last night he seemed to have changed his tune.

Wenger said: “I’m happy to have him back,”

“He has been out for a while now and missed some games so he will be full of enthusiasm and can help us at some stage. Is it from the start or coming on? I don’t know yet.”

Arsenal definitely need goals against Newcastle, not just to ensure the three points, but to give us a chance of overhauling Chelsea’s superior goal difference to steal the automatic entry to the Champions League Group Stages by finishing Third.

Having scored four against Wigan, I personally think that Wenger should stick with Podolski and then bring Giroud on for the last 20 minutes for some fresh legs towards the end.
