Boss Arsene Wenger dismissed the possibility that Robin Van Persie will leave the club after many reports have appeared in the press linking the Dutch striker with a possible leave from Emirates. Van Persie himself stated that he has no intention of leaving Arsenal, but the manager felt the need to defend his player.

“There is no better way [to show your commitment to the Club],” said Wenger.

“People speak about the length of contracts but what you want from a player, as long as he is at the Club, is to give absolutely 100 per cent. On that front you cannot fault Robin. He is committed, every day he is focused in training, and I am pleased that he got two goals again.

“It was a special moment from Van Persie to win the game but overall I was pleased with the team performance,” Wenger added.

“I think when we got back to 2-1 we wanted to protect our goal but we looked quite comfortable and I must say the central defence was strong. Mertesacker goes from strength to strength and Koscielny had a very good game.”

Van Persie is at Arsenal since 2004 when he was brought in from Feyenoord. After the game against Sunderland and the two goals he scored, the striker stated that he bought a new house in London and that he’s not planning on moving away any time soon.
