Wenger urged to buy Samba to settle the Arsenal defence

Arsenal have had terrible injuries to their defence for the last three or four seasons and this year is just as bad, if not worse, but Wenger has announced he is only looking for a loan signing to get through the next few months.

But the ex-Arsenal manager George Graham thinks that Blackburn’s Christopher Samba would be the perfect partner to Thomas Vermaelen in the Arsenal back line and could bring some proven Premiership stability to the defence with the worst record in the country.

“You look at the Arsenal back four and they keep changing. Both of the full-backs are injured and they’re playing centre-halves there,” Graham said.

“I’d be in for Samba to help out in defence. Thomas Vermaelen is one of the best centre-halves in the Premier League and they need to get him back as quickly as possible.

“They need a strong defensive centre-half to play alongside him though, and Samba would make the perfect partner.”

Samba himself made it clear that he wanted to join Arsenal in the summer, and he yet again proclaimed his wish to leave Ewood Park last week and even threatened to go on strike to force a move.

The big defender didn’t turn up for Blackburns win over Fulham this weekend, claiming that he had a stomach bug, but his manager Steve Kean is refusing to be blackmailed into letting him go. He said: “He’s not for sale, it’s as simple as that.”

“He’ll be back in again and hopefully ready for Everton,”

Should Wenger get Samba in and send one of his other centre-backs out on loan? Maybe Djourou?

  1. Djouou should be sold along with a whole bunch of others.

Samba would be a good deal if a deal could be struck. Vertonghen would be the other one to bring in.

    Neymar, Hazard and Gotze too.

  2. Whether Wenger agrees or not, it is very clear that Arsenal needs to do something about their defence. They need to bring in a provened defender or even two, otherwise there in no way they could be among the top 4 this season. Imagine the defence of the top teams- mancity, man u (shakky but not like arsenal’s), spurs and even chelsea. If Wenger does not sign anybody, then arsenal should be ready for Europe’s 2nd tier football next year.

  3. Arsenal’s problems are not just defensive. yes, the german buy has proven to be rubbish and sluggish. But you defend as a team, and some Arsenal players do no simply like to defend and they show it week after week. These players, apart fro Arshavin, include Theo and Ramsey. For the latter, ramsey, I think he got big-headed too early. Yes, the boy is talented but he should realise that he is no where close to the finished article and needs to work harder defensively and stop being selfish in front of goal and losing the ball way to often for a central midfield player. I guess his swollen head does not realise that he is not a first choice when everyone is fit. The, comes the problem of wenger’s tactical naivity. he has shown it over the years and the it does not improve with experience because he too romantic/idealist about the game. Some pragmatism would help. In reality, we do not have good attacking players and Wenger still insists on attacking no matter what. The only good attackers in the team are RVP and Gervinho (Alex Chamberlain). The rest are utter rubbish (can’t defend and can’t really cause problems going forward).

  4. WATS WRONG WITH MR WENGER WHY IS HE SO STURBON HE IS A VERY GOOD MANAGER BUT CANT HE SEE THAT SAMBA IS LIKE CAMPELL TO OUR DIFENCE WE NEED HIM A.S.A.P PLEASE HE MUST LISTERN TO ADVICE SOMETIMES NO MATTER HOW GOOD HE IS OUR DIFENCE IS VERY BAD

  5. Loan!!!!.why wenger is alway looking for prayers to loan.after two seasons of shouting to buy samba and fail, wenger is at it again.wenger is shouting again to calm down the presure on him.He is lier.Your time is up.

  6. samba will be a perfect solution but monsiuer wenger is too stingy to buy him.get him and manuel vargas then we are set to land a trophy orelse relegation.
