What if Arsenal finish 4th again this season?

6

The fourth place finish is becoming increasingly familiar to many Arsenal fans in recent seasons, considering how Arsenal have performed in the league in the past couple of editions. Many would argue that Arsenal are trying to pay off our new stadium debt. Thus, we did not have the financial capability to compete with the other teams.

While the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City have relied on their available riches to bring in the silverware, Arsenal have stuck to our philosophy and brought in Champions League finishes season after season. Now, our debt is almost cleared off, we have the capability to compete with the rest, as seen from our signings of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez. However, what if even with these signings, we end up with a fourth place finish again?

This would mean all our efforts of pushing for the new stadium would have gone to vain. As much as it ensures we remain a big club for years to come, we would still be a club that is stagnant from progression.

Personally, I do not think we will finish fourth next season. The team has too much talent to finish fourth again. However, the other teams in the league are also filled with talent and I don’t totally eliminate the chance of it happening.

If we do finish fourth, I feel that a major overhaul will be needed. Players not up to standards will have to go and weak links in the management would have to pack their bags. Arsenal are a top team and finishing fourth will not cut it anymore.

Nevertheless, I think a fourth place finish next season will be out of the question as I have too much faith in the depth and strength of our offense.

What do you guys think?

  1. If we finish 4th, we finish 4th, but at least this season we’ve seen the club put the effort in. It’s not easy to compete with teams with unlimited cash. If we hadn’t build the stadium we would have been worse off in future. I’m always surprised how some people don’t understand the long term view the club are taking. What’s the point of over spending now and then not competing in future to satisfy a bunch of financially uneducated.

  2. i dont tink finishin 4th in d EPL this comin season wil make all Arsenal’s efforts in building d Manginificent Emirates stadium a waste.. The Emirates (the Stadium, i mean) represents d very essence of Arsenal. It is now what d Highbury used to be. The Beautiful Stadium and the Lush Green playin Turf ooze Class n Glamour. And that Edifice continues d Arsenal tradition of Integrity n Royalty. So i contest ur view dat a 4th place finish this term around would rubbish all the efforts in building d Emirates Stadium. I dont tink Arsenal, Wenger and/or d Gooniverse (I claim ownership 4 dis word) would have gone thru d Pains, Heartaches n sacrifices all diz years jst 2 base d gains on d league position 4 jst a season. So no, Sir, i beg to disagree… Though, i do admit, it will rank as a failure considerin d huge (4 Arsenal) Financial outlay last season on Ozil n recently on sanchez shud Arsenal finish outside of d automatic spot 4 Champions Leagues qualificatn.

  3. Would be fine with me if win the Champions league and the F.A cup and still finish fourth in the league.
