When Lukas Podolski signed for Arsenal for a mere 10 million before the 2011-2012 season ended, many Arsenal fans were ecstatic. In Podolski, we found a superb and deadly finisher. Also, Podolski is one with a powerful shot and a great footballing brain to spot key passes. Many Arsenal fans were extremely excited regarding Podolski wearing an Arsenal jersey.

Podolski had a decent start to his Arsenal career, capturing a brace in his first preseason match. He went on to have an impressive first season with the club, finishing with 16 goals and 11 assists. Not bad for a player playing in England for the first time.

However in the next season, Podolski was less favoured with the superstar signing of Mesut Ozil pushing Santi Cazorla more towards the left. Podolski found his playing chances and time limited. Whenever he was playing, he was labelled as lazy and unwilling to track back to help the defence on the left flank. Many also found Podolski too direct one one dimensional and thus, not being able to provide anything extra to the Arsenal left flank.

With the signing of Alexis Sanchez, it is likely that Podolski will get lesser and lesser playing opportunities as Alexis is highly likely to be placed on the left flank. Many will then question if Podolski’s time is up at Arsenal.

To me, Podolski should remain at Arsenal. Despite having limited chances, Podolski is still able to finish with an impressive 12 goals and that could help Arsenal’s title push next season. He is as good a backup as you can get in the premier league. He is also loyal to the club as you can see from his tweets.

What do you think about the Podolski issue?

  1. I Would Prefer Podolski n Sanchez in a 4-4-2 formation or Sanchez-Podolski-Walcott in 4-3-3 formation Than fielding Giroud Who is very wasteful n Nagging Slow…..If i was A W

Not forgeting 2 sign Morgan Schneiderlin as my holding mid fielding n spare da team 4rm the Injury prone S Khedira.
