The current football season has been excruciating at times for Arsenal fans and it is showing no signs of getting easier. Despite the excellent run of form recently, with six wins from the last eight Premier League games, the Gunners still have the threat of finishing outside the top four looming large.
With ten man Chelsea coming from behind to win yesterday at Aston Villa, it is now down to Tottenham and Arsenal to fight it out over the remaining Champions League place. There is plenty to worry about for Arsenal fans, as a Spurs win at Stoke City today will leave us needing to beat Wigan at the Emirates on Tuesday and they will be flying high after their shock victory over Manchester City yesterday.
You have to hand it to Roberto Martinez and his players, though. Everybody expected them to take it easy because of their crucial fight against relegation, but they went for it and produced a great performance to beat City. It was a big risk for Martinez, because if it had not worked, he would have had a team of knackered and dispirited players. Instead, they will be walking on air and the euphoria will give them the energy and belief to make things very difficult for Arsenal.
Arsene Wenger knows that his players should have the quality to beat Wigan, but they have upset the odds so many times that nothing is certain. We could really do with a favour from Stoke today, but it will probably not happen, leaving us Gooners with a nail biting finale to the season. Worried? You should be.
