Will Arsenal really sign Robert Lewandowski? I don’t think so.

Lewandowski was recently interviewed and said the following:
“I don’t think it is a real big surprise that I have expressed a desire to play in England at some point in my career.

“The Premier League is one of the best and most exciting in the world because it is attractive for most of the world’s top players.”

This has prompted many papers to report that Lewandowski is a target for Arsenal. But I just don’t buy it. It was widely reported and confirmed by both Klopp and Lewandowski that he’d agreed a preliminary deal with Bayern and had his heart was set on going there. He has absolutely burnt bridges with everyone at the club and with Dortmund’s fans to get his move to Bayern. I just can’t see why he’d want to join someone else after doing all that he could to get a move to Dortmund’s rivals. There would’ve been offers from the likes of City, Chelsea, Arsenal and so on around summer time and he clearly picked Bayern.

Also, some of the prices being bandied about by the media are insane. They are expecting us to bid £25m for a striker in January with only 6 months left on his contract and with a club who are desperate to not let him go to their rivals. That is an obscene amount of money to pay for a player in that situation.

Finally, it’s quite clear Lewandowski’s words have been misconstrued. It seems to me that he’s just stating that he likes the Premier league and would one day like to play in it. He could easily play for Bayern until he’s 31-32 and then seek a challenge in the Premier league. It certainly doesn’t mean he doesn’t want to go to Bayern/they don’t want him and now he wants to join Arsenal/Chelsea/City.

I like Lewandowski. He’s a top striker but I can’t see him not joining Bayern. It’s a win-win situation for them. They get a world class striker on a free and weaken their direct rivals for the Bundesliga.
