Arsenal had a very exciting yet tense deadline day this summer as Arsenal completed the signing of Mesut Ozil in a record breaking £42.5 million deal for the club. The Germany international midfielder joined the Gunners from Real Madrid on a contract supposedly worth 7 million euros per year. But another deal that Arsene Wenger was hoping to complete was Chelsea striker Demba Ba who had been made available for loan by the West Londoners.

On Monday, Chelsea made it aware to Premier League clubs that Senegal striker Demba Ba was available for loan and Arsenal apparently made a quick swoop in for the hit man alongside former clubs Newcastle and West Ham, whilst North London rivals Spurs apparently also had an interest in the player. Arsenal seemed to be the most likely to secure the players name in a tense few hours, however Wenger apparently wasn’t keen on agreeing to reduce the £3 million loan fee that Chelsea wanted, with the Gunners offering just £1.5 million instead.

Wenger of course stuck to his guns and eventually the deal broke down and Ba remained with Chelsea however some reports today suggest that newly returned Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho rejected the player’s choice to leave Stamford Bridge to the Emirates because Mourinho sees us as a direct challenger after the signing of Mesut Ozil.
According to Transfer Market Web who reliably report news stated by other independent news outlets stated that Mourinho admitted to saying: “We didn’t accept Arsenal’s offer for Demba Ba because the signing of Ozil makes them title contenders”.

In my opinion that is a massive statement from Chelsea and Mourinho because it means other clubs are envious of our latest signing and the fact that we are now direct challengers to the other top teams in England for the club. Had we not of signed Ozil perhaps we would have Ba right no but then again I think we’d all agree in saying we would rather it happened the way it actually did, with Arsenal managing to sign Ozil!

  1. I think between Walcott, podolski, bendtner, park, sanogo, afobe and akpom we have enough quality and depth to be able to keep the pressure on giroud and rest him where possible.
