Will Emirates Cup be last chance for Campbell at Arsenal?

1

After he tweeted just the other day about flying to London to fight for his dream of playing for Arsenal, I was pretty surprised to see that the 22-year old forward was not on the plane taking the Gunners to America for a short visit and pre-season friendly against Theirry Henry and his New York Red Bulls side.

Instead, it appears that the Costa Rica international stopped off in France for a final few days’ holiday and will join up with Arsenal for training next week. I thought the young Gunner would be desperate to start showing Arsene Wenger what he is made of, because I don’t think the Frenchman is totally convinced that Campbell can really do it for Arsenal in the Premier League.

And when you hear Arsenal transfer rumours like the one in Metro suggesting that Serie A club AC Milan are interested in signing him, you would have to think that next weekend’s Emirates Cup games against Benfica and Monaco, and perhaps the Community Shield game with Man City, could be the only chance Campbell gets to stake his claim in the Arsenal team.

It seems a bit harsh on the lad, as it was not his fault that his Arsenal career stopped before it started with the work permit issues, but if I was him I would be giving it everything when he arrives in London next week. Will he make it as a Gunner?

  1. These kinds of speculative articles are annoying to read. Why don’t we just wait for the Emirate cup, community shield and the start of the season proper to know what will happen to him? Why are you writing as if your speculation is a statement of fact?
