Wolves win the race to sign Emmanuel Frimpong from Arsenal

It was reported a few weeks ago that Wolverhampton Wanderers were trying to persude Arsene Wenger to allow Emmanuel Frimpong to move to Molineaux in January, and although Aston Villa also showed interest in taking the young Arsenal midfielder it seems that Wolves have got the final nod.

The BBC reports that talks are still ongoing but the 19 year-old is expected to finally sign on Monday for a loan at Wolves until the end of the season.

I personally thought that Frimpong was Arsenal’s best backup for Alexander Song, but we can only assume that Wenger is expecting Abou Diaby to be fit very soon to act as cover in the defensive midfield department, and of course Jack Wilshere is fully expected to be back in the squad in about a months time.

I understand that Wenger wants Frimpong to get an extended run of first-team football, and he wouldn’t have let him go to Wolves without a promise from Mick McCarthy that he will be used, but I’m a little worried that Alex Song may get injured and Diaby could very easily succumb to yet another setback before his ankle returns to normal.

I guess there is always Francis Coquelin who has been impressive when given his chance in the first team…..

  1. Coquelin has been far more impressive when called upon to play that role. He also had a very productive loan spell last year which dramatically improved his game.

It’s time Frimpong got a taste of competition and there’s no better place to do that than a Mccarthy team fighting relegation. If anyone can channel his fight productively into a midfield rock like Song then it will the tough tackling Wolves team.

  2. This will be the making of Frimpong.
He will cone back a better, more mature player, and I can’t wait to see the finished product.

  3. francis coquelin has a better football brain than frimpong, better passing ability, better footwork, etc. Its obvious wenger likes frimpong just as he did senderous and danielson but there dont always turn out to be arsenal greats. Lets hope the loan spell helps his game ‘ all brawls n no brains’

  4. I still think Wolves philosophy on football will not help frimpong on his progress. His style is all action more than technical ability as is Wolves.

  5. i think he will be great at wolves.they are a team steeped in history.big things are going o. at their place.new stadium and all.they are no longer sleeping giants.it seems they are wide awake.they would be in englands all time 6 greatest teams.he will come back a better player.
