Why Cisse would be a great sigmimg for Arsenal

Of all the transfer talk about Arsenal in the past couple of weeks specifically about strikers, I have not heard anybody mention anything about Newcastle’s Papiss Cisse. Sure, he didn’t have a great season but I think he is perfect for Arsenal at this current time.

If the club cannot sign Wayne Rooney which is looking like the situation today, Wenger’s next top target in my opinion should be Cisse. Arsenal were in the hunt for Gonzalo Higuain and Stevan Jovetic which has calmed down since Juventus got involved and ruined both deals but Fiorentina were wanting around £25 Million for Jovetic which is a pretty high price for Arsenal.

Back to Cisse, he would be a great fit at Arsenal because of the service he would receive which is much better than at Newcastle because of the style of play. This past season Newcastle seem to have been playing in a more counter attacking and defensive way which has left Cisse on his own up front for most matches meaning he has had to try and craft all his own chances with little support from the more creative players in the team who have been injured for large chunks of the campaign.

Cisse is the sort of player who loves to be on the end of crosses, makes perfect runs when he is off the ball and knows how to hit the back of the net when he does have the ball. With all the support from the midfield at Arsenal I believe Cisse could easily achieve over 20 goals in the league and show the best form of his career.

Wenger was watching Cisse for many months when he played for Freiburg in Germany but didn’t make a move for him in the end. Now is the time to make the move but Newcastle will be reluctant to sell him for less than £16 Million which is a problem when Arsenal are involved.

Agree with me or not but I think Papiss Cisse is a great fit for the current Arsenal squad and he could bring more goals to the club than Olivier Giroud.

Should Arsenal look to raid Newcastle if the Toon get relegated?

Newcastle United are extremely close to being relegated with their poor form and current position in the table. I think it is entirely possible for them to go down if they don’t start picking up points and if the teams around them do such as Wigan and Sunderland. The Newcastle team is packed with French players that Arsenal have been linked with in the past. The question is, would and should Arsenal move for any of these players if Newcastle were to be relegated?

Let’s start in the defence as we review the players who have been linked with Arsenal in the past.

Mathieu Debuchy
The right back who only arrived at Newcastle in January. Arsene Wenger has been an admirer of his for the last few seasons and would welcome a move for him if the price was low enough. Bacary Sagna may well be on his way out this summer and Debuchy would be a good player to replace him.

Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa
He also arrived in January and was also admired by Wenger because of his excellent leadership and defensive skills that helped Montpelier to a miracle French title win last season. He has not been as influential with Newcastle this season but he certainly has the potential to be a world class defender, the likes of which Arsenal could use.

Cheick Tiote
He may not be French but he surely is a great player. He is one of the best old fashioned defensive midfielders in the league despite not having an impact this season, he would be a great player to fill the gap left by Alex Song last year.

Yohan Cabaye
Cabaye would demand the biggest transfer sum of all of Newcastle’s current players and would be a fine addition to Arsenal. Many other top clubs would be after him though which means competitive bidding will be required from Wenger and the club.

Moussa Sissoko
One of the few players who has performed well for Newcastle this season since his arrival in January. When he played in the French league he was constantly linked with top clubs in Europe including Arsenal. He was an excellent defensive midfielder but since moving to Newcastle he has turned into an excellent attacking midfielder. With the right players around him, I could see Sissoko emulating the ability of Patrick Vieira.

Yoan Gouffran
Yet another player who was linked with Arsenal over the last few seasons. When Chamakh was in good form the gunners during his first 6 months at the club it was said that Gouffran would be brought over to revive the partnership they had at Bordeaux.

Hatem Ben Arfa
He has injury problems but when he can play, he really can play. He has the dribbling skills of a great player and can produce moments of magic when you need them most.

Papiss Cisse
Personally I think Cisse should be Arsenal’s top transfer target. He is an excellent striker who can score goals with the right delivery and could become a top striker with the players he would have around him at Arsenal. Wenger was chasing him for two season when he played for Freiburg but ultimately missed his chance to sign him.

As Arsenal fans which of these players would you like to see at the club if Newcastle were to be relegated?

Arsenal rumour roundup Jan 18th – Kaka, Arshavin, No-one, Dann, Squillaci and Cisse

Reading the Arsenal rumours every morning becomes more and more depressing, especially when you read things like Newcastle signing the classy striker Papa Cisse for just 7m quid. Surely he would have been worth buying as an excellent backup to Van Persie? We have all given up on Chamakh, and Park just seems to have been brought in as a cheerleader……

The repeated rumour that Arsenal are going to try and get Kaka on loan from Real Madrid is just a load of Kaka! Not only has Wenger already said that the Arsenal midfield is already “too crowded”, there is not a hope in hell that Wenger would sanction matching the wages he gets in Madrid. Oh and it started from Caughtoffside…Nuff said!

The Mail are under the impression that the Blackburn defender Scott Dann is going to follow Christopher Samba out the door as he is “urgently seeking talks with Steve Kean” with a view to leaving. They think that both Arsenal and Liverpool are interested in buying him this month, but surely Blackburn can’t afford to lose both their first-choice centre-backs and still expect to stay in the Premiership? But if they stay and are unhappy is that just as bad…..

The latest on Arshavin is that Lazio are keen to take him to Serie A,according to the Mirror, but yesterday a red-top said that Arshavin wouldn’t leave London because his kids love it and he wants them to get citizenship. Personally I don’t believe either story….

The Sun has a headline saying “Wenger refuses to spend (again)”. They reckon that Wenger is going to anger the fans by buying no-one at all, but qualify that by saying that the “only thing that might change his mind is a disastrous result against Manchester United at the Emirates on Sunday.” So, in other words, Wenger may buy or he may not……

Everyone is talking about Squillaci going back to Monaco as if its a done deal, but I have seen very little evidence that this is true. But as they are currently in the French second division then that may be Squillaci’s level right now so I wouldn’t be surprised….

If I had to choose the most likely scenario out of all those above, I would pick the Sun’s “No-one at all” as the most likely, closely followed by the Squillaci exit. As for the rest……Kaka!
