The first match of the Premier League was played. Teams showed their intentions. As a Gunner, you must be buzzing about Arteta and the boys picking up a famous win in their season opener, beating Nottingham Forest 2-1.

After the games were played, the PL standings were as follows:

Based on the weekend results while on talkSPORT breakfast, Gabby Agbonlahor has noted that judging by what he saw over the weekend, Man City, Arsenal, Newcastle, and Chelsea as teams will make it to the PL top 4. He said Liverpool and Manchester United weren’t convincing in their first game of the season, and that’s why he doesn’t see them as the top-four challengers.

“Looking at Chelsea, I’m starting to think City, Arsenal, Newcastle, and Chelsea are my top four from that first game,” said Agbonlahor

“If I’m choosing from those first-game performances, I don’t see Liverpool or Man United in that top four.”

Yes, it is good to see Arsenal ranked in the top 4. But for Gooners, that isn’t what they are looking at. Finishing in the top four isn’t in the ambitions of the Gunners; winning the league is. The win over Forest for Arsenal is one of the many they need to redeem themselves after a disappointing end to the season where they lost their grip, and saw the PL title slip through their hands only for Man City to catch it.

Sustaining the momentum from now until the end of the season in May 2023 is a big task, but Arteta and the boys have to do it. Arsenal’s next few games are as follows:

Monday, August 21

Crystal Palace vs. Arsenal

Saturday, August 26

Arsenal vs. Fulham

Sunday, September 3

Arsenal vs. Manchester United
