It looks like money is not everything in football, because you would have to assume that Arsenal would not be able to match the crazy wages and transfer fees that Man United have been paying, especially since the Dutch manager Louis van Gaal took over at the club this summer.
That had made it very likely that Arsenal would have to miss out on one of our main transfer targets Mats Hummels, even if the German centre back was to be sold by his Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund in the January transfer window. Because despite having about half a dozen central defenders already, it has been heavily rumoured that van Gaal was looking to sign another top class defender in an attempt to stop another season going down the toilet.
With Hummels said to be right at the top of United’s transfer list, Arsenal fans were left thinking that we would have to look elsewhere, but not according to the latest from Germany, as reported by The Mirror. The paper is reporting that Hummels has let it be known that he would rather become a Gunner than a Red Devil and that he is getting ever closer to the exit door at Borussia Dortmund, who are currently propping up the German Bundesliga table.
Now that would be a transfer coup up there with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.
