It is par for the course when you are a big club like Arsenal, fighting for the English Premier League, Champions League and two domestic cup competitions every season, that you need a big squad with lots of strength in depth. But there is a flipside to that as well.

With Arsene Wenger’s commitment to the Arsenal academy as well as the need to have a strong squad, you do get situations like the one with Carl Jenkinson in the last couple of years, when a promising player finds it tough to get the regular game time he needs to really push on and progress his football.

That is why Arsenal and other big clubs use the loan system so much, giving those fringe players a good chance to play competitive games on a regular basis. The question for Arsene Wenger at the minute is; should the young German starlet Serge Gnabry be one of those Gunners who goes out on loan?

A report in The Mirror claims that three Premier League clubs, Newcastle, Sunderland and Southampton, have enquired about taking the 19-year old on loan this season, which would provide the talented winger to gain some very valuable top flight experience, and possibly do Arsenal a favour when he plays against our rivals for the title.

With Alexis Sanchez in the side, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain set to return from injury and Joel Campbell to play for us after his own spells on loan, Gnabry might find his opportunities very limited at the Emirates and it would be a real shame to see such a promising player stagnating on the bench. What do you think Gooners?
