Theo Walcott has somehow managed to control his excitement of the club signing Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid when he was asked about the Germany international midfielder’s move to Arsenal in a massive deadline day turnaround!
24 year old Mesut Ozil, joined Arsenal officially for a reported £42.4m earlier in the transfer window deadline day, however Arsenal didn’t release the confirmation till 30 minutes before the end of the window on their official website Arsenal.com.
A few of the Arsenal players including Lukas Podolski had been hinting at a possible move for Ozil, throughout the day however none of the player have managed to voice their opinion on Ozil up to now. But now Walcott has changed that and although he perhaps doesn’t sound quite as excited as all of us fans are he still states he cannot wait to link up with the ex-Real Madrid man.
Walcott stated in a press conference with England: “It is very exciting. I played against him for the Under 21s when we lost 4-0 and he showed his qualities then and he has showed them throughout many years now for his club and country. He’s been a great addition and I am personally looking forward to playing with him. I am really excited to play with him. Everyone was glued to their TVs – it was quite exciting. It’s something that isn’t pleasant for players because it’s a difficult time, but I am glad everyone was very happy with their moves and now can just focus on their clubs and get down to business.”
Ozil is widely recognised as perhaps the world’s current best play maker having created a fantastic amount of chances for Real Madrid over the years as well as picking up 80+ assists in the last three years. Ozil’s vision, creativity and trickiness with his feet makes me think he is going to provide excellent service for both Giroud and perhaps surprising Walcott. If the England international can manage to work on his runs then we could potentially see Ozil lifting passes over the defence for Walcott on a regular basis and hopefully lead to a fair few assists!
