The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger seems to be in a confident mood ahead of his Arsenal side’s top of the table clash against Liverpool at the Emirates stadium. The match against the Reds kicks off a massively important week for the Gunners which includes away trips to Manchester United and Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, the French manager acknowledged the importance of the upcoming week and maintained that he has full confidence in his team to do well in the challenging run of fixtures.
He said: “It is an important period of course, but I am quite confident and am quite relaxed because I have the complete confidence that we will deal well with it. I take it as an opportunity to show our strengths and I am completely sure that the players will be up for it and take this opportunity.”
The 64-year old also went on to add a few words about his team’s spirit in the dressing and room and spoke highly of the desire in the team.
“We are a very stable team who, since January 1, has taken more points than anybody else. We are in a strong position in the Premier League, that is why our mood is positive. We want to be, and I think we are, title contenders, and Liverpool as well.”
I have to say, I completely agree with Wenger. A lot has been made recently of our two defeats in the past week with some sections of the English media even labeling the situation as a ‘mini-crisis’. Like Wenger rightfully pointed out, this is the team that has picked up the most points since the beginning of the year and they will only get better.
What I’m trying to say is, Wenger has reason to be confident and I believe we should too. There has been a lot of skepticism over the past week after the two defeats and I believe it is uncalled for. Arsenal are well and truly title contenders and I fully expect them to prove it when Liverpool come visiting. The Gunners’ campaign is pretty much still on the right track and there’s certainly no need to panic.
