Arsene Wenger thinks that Arsenal have too many midfielders already on board to consider bringing in Yoann Gourcuff from Lyon, despite the numerous rumours surrounding a possible January arrival of the talented playmaker.
Both Jack Wilshere and Abou Diaby are expected to be joining the squad by the end of January, and with Thomas Rosicky and Yossi Benayoun already on the bench trying to break into the Gunners first team there will be no room for another midfielder, no matter how good he is.
“We have choices in midfield,” Wenger said. “We have Diaby and Wilshere coming back so we have lots of people in there.
“However I see a positive future for Gourcuff. I think he will come back to his best level. He has been out for four or five months and what happens to him now is normal. He’s played his first few games only on his desire and, after an injury, it’s normal to have a dip.
“Between January and June will be the key moment for him but I think he will be back to his best.”
Should Wenger make room for Gourcuff? Perhaps by selling Rosicky, Arshavin and Diaby?
