Arsenal’s interest in Ajax defender Jurrien Timber shows that Mikel Arteta is serious about building a young and versatile defence for the future.
Timber, who can play at centre-back or right-back, is seen as a potential long-term solution for both positions at Arsenal. Despite just being 22 years old, he has already shown a lot of promise at Ajax.
Arteta is reportedly a big fan of Timber’s versatility and his ability to play in different positions. He believes that the Ajax man could be a key player for the Gunners in the years to come.
The young defender’s signing would also be a sign of intent from Arsenal. It would show that the club is serious about increasing their squad depth which will enable them to challenge for the Premier League and the Champions League.

The Dutchman has made 121 appearances for his current employers while also appearing 15 times for his national side Netherlands.
The North London outfit are currently in negotiations with West Ham and Chelsea for Declan Rice and Kai Havertz respectively. Adding Timber to the list will only upgrade the options Arteta has at his disposal.
Of course, there are no guarantees that Timber will sign for Arsenal. However, the club’s interest in him shows that they are serious about building a young and successful team.
