Everyone concerned with Arsenal Football Club would have been disappointed to see the current Premier League leaders pass their latest by beating AFC Bournemouth despite having to play the game without first choice centre forward Diego Costa and midfield star N’Golo Kante.

But there was some encouragement yesterday in our hopes that Arsenal can make up the nine point gap and give Chelsea a proper run for their money this season. It came from the slightly unlikely source of Tony Pulis, who despite being clearly disappointed that his West Brom side were not able to hold on to take a point home to the West Midlands, said after the game that he thinks that Arsene Wenger has a stronger squad of players than Antonio Conte.

The Baggies boss said, ‘If you look at the players who were not playing and not in the team today, and then you look at Chelsea’s, I think Arsenal have definitely got the stronger squad.

‘So they have most probably got the staying power to see them through and it will be interesting to see what Chelsea do.

‘I think Chelsea will spend. I don’t think your man (Chelsea manager Antonio Conte) will sit back on what he’s got, I think he will invest.

‘So it will be an interesting window for the top four or five clubs.’

It is just as well that Arsenal do have a strong squad with all the injury problems we keep getting. So far Chelsea have had nothing like it and their game yesterday was the first of the season in the EPL that either Costa or Kante have missed.

It will certainly be interesting if they do pick up an injury here and there. Will that prove Pulis right about our respective squad strengths?
