Mikel Arteta is the new Arsenal captain and Aaron Ramsey is arguably our best player whose great performances last season earned him the fans vote for Player of the season. They are also the heart of the Arsenal midfield which might as well not have been on the pitch as we were ripped to shreds by Borussia Dortmund last night.

So it is only right that these two senior players shouldered a lot of the blame for our Champions League capitulation, with the Spaniard facing Sky Sports after the match and admitting that Arsenal were well below the performance level needed and just failed to cope with the Germans and he had no hesitation admitting the Gunners were second best.

The young Welsh midfielder has not found his top gear yet this season and last night was one of his worst games in a while. Rambo took it on the chin and apologised to the fans via social media, as revealed in a Daily Star report.

He wrote, “That wasn’t good enough tonight, sorry to all the fans and thank you for your support.”

We have seen bad games from Arsenal before, but I cannot remember our midfield being so inept in a long time. At least these two key players had the guts to apologise and hopefully it will have really hurt them, because if the Gunners are going to bounce back from this at Aston Villa, we need these two to step up.
