Can Arsenal build title winning team with £70 million?

There have been reports in the papers this week that Arsenal Football Club are going to hand Arsene Wenger a transfer kitty of around £70 million. I am going to be optimistic and assume that this is true, and that the club thinks that Wenger can build a team capable of winning the Premier League title with it. Is this realistic?

First, the positives: the Gunners already have a great core, with Szczesny, Mertesacker and Koscielny providing a rerally solid foundation. Gibbs has really blossomed into a top quality left back as well. In front of that we have Arteta and Flamini, one who can help to pass the lesser teams off the park and the other who can battle against the bigger, higher pressing teams.

Moving forward, Arsenal really start to look good, with Ramsey, Ozil, Wilshere, Cazorla, Walcott, Podolski, Giroud and the upcoming talent like Gnabry. With a few quality additions, Arsenal have the creative and attacking potential to rival anyone.

Now the negatives: it looks like we are going to lose Fabianski, Sagna and maybe Vermaelen, so that is three positions needing filling before we even think about strengthening. We need a Vieira type character, a world class striker and a proper winger. Can we get all that for £70m?

This is how I see our 25 man squad come the end of the season after 7 out of contract players (viviano, boateng, miquel, galindo, kallstrom, bendtner, park) have left.

    Szczesney fabianski martinez
    Sagna Jenkinson
    Mertesacker djourou
    Koscielny vermaelen
    Flamini arteta coquelin
    Ramsey wilshire diaby
    Walcott campbell
    Ozil rosicky
    Cazorla podolski ryo
    Giroud

As you say we look set to lose fabianski sagna and vermaelen whilst question marks surely hang over Jenkinson Monreal arteta coquelin diaby campbell podolski and ryo. Meaning upto 11 places need sorting, hopefully 5 or 6 of those will move on allowing the manager to bring in the necessary re-inforcements.

Sure I have not included under 21s like macey iliev huddart bellerin siemann ajayi Pleguezuelo hayden fagan ormonde-ottewill Olsson zelalem toral eisfeld jebb gnabry oxlade-chamberlain aneke ansah afobe sanogo akpom lipman wellington, many of who could go on loan, leave or in one or two cases be involved with the first team.

I think it’s more likely to be an GK, Rb, Cb, Dm, winger and a striker. In an ideal world that would be casillas, Coleman, hummels, bender, reus or draxler and Cavani. Well we can all dream.
But I think it’s more likely to be valdes, aurier, lescott, barry, Ben arfa, remy.
