Arsenal to go back for Ashley Williams after Vermaelen injury

The Daily Mail is reporting this morning that Arsenal are going to go back with a bid for Ashley Williams, as we have heard that Thomas Vermaelen will miss the strart of the season through injury.

The Gunners are stepping up their interest in Swansea defender Ashley Williams following Thomas Vermaelen’s back injury.

The Wales international is a key target for Arsene Wenger this summer, but Arsenal have baulked at the central-defender’s £10million asking price.

But as Sportsmail revealed on Tuesday, captain Vermaelen is likely to miss the start of the season due to the recurrence of a lower back problem, leaving the Gunners with just two fit senior centre-halves; Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker.

Arsenal quoted a fair price for Ashley Williams?

Arsenal have been persistently linked with a lot of attackers this summer, most notably in Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain whom we seem set to sign in the coming week, whilst we’ve also been linked a lot with Wayne Rooney and Julio Cesar, both who are still very much in the papers, however one player who has gone off the record in the last few weeks is Swansea defender Ashley Williams.

Should Arsenal just forget about Williams?

Ashley Williams has been persistently linked with Arsenal over the last month, suggesting that there may be some real truth to the stories. Arsene Wenger is believed to be keen on the Welsh International but Swansea are reportedly quoting a value of £10 million, which I personally can’t see Wenger paying.

When it comes to Arsenal, £10 million is a lot of money and I just cannot see the Gunner’s spending so much on a player that would ultimately play no more than a bench and squad rotation role at the club. I personally don’t rate Williams at all, and so I’m not sure what all the hype is about, but taking into account that a lot of people are very keen on him, then he must have that special something.

Arsenal rumours – Higuain offer confirmed at last, but none for Williams

All Arsenal fans have been desperately waiting for the news that Gonzalo Higuain is definitely coming to Arsenal, well we have finally received a direct quote from his father that Arsenal have made a firm offer and are favourites for his signature, although it is still not certain to be accepted by Real Madrid.

Higuain Senior said: “Nothing has been signed yet, but I can assure you there are advanced talks between the clubs. We wouldn’t arrange any personal contract before the clubs agree for the transfer. I’m aware Arsenal has made a strong offer, as well as Juventus.”
