There are not a lot of Arsenal transfer rumours around today, but the Metro has come up with the news that Arsenal are now favourites to sign the classy Blackburn winger Junior Hoillet, who will be a free agent this summer.
They reported: “…latest reports suggest Arsenal have moved to the front of the queue for the 21-year-old’s signature.
There has also been interest from Bayern Munich, but it is thought the Canada-born player would prefer to remain in the Premier League when he leaves Blackburn.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is believed to be an admirer of Hoilett’s pace and trickery, while his style of play resembles that of young Gunners Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Strangely enough the Daily Mirror has gone the other way and reckons that Tottenham are more likely to sign the 21 year-old Canadian. They report: Tottenham lead the chase for Blackburn contract rebel Junior Hoilett – and fancy a bargain deal for the Canadian star in the summer.
Spurs chief scout Ian Broomfield watched Hoilett, 21, turn it on for Blackburn against Aston Villa and the talented wide man’s current deal is up in June.
If Spurs move for Hoilett, the fee is likely to be settled by tribunal.
So neither report is full of background information or quotes, but at least Tottenham sent a scout along. Perhaps Wenger had a good enough look at him while Arsenal were hammering Blackburn 7-1 lol!
