According to a Brazilian website, Arsenal have completed the signing of Atletico Mineiro midfielder Bernard. The website, O Tempo, also claims that negotiations between the Gunners and the Brazilian club were concluded on the 15th of July.
The report goes on to say that the president of Atletico Mineiro, Alexandre Kalil, has admitted that it will be extremely difficult to keep hold of the talented playmaker and that a move to Europe might very well be on the cards.
The infamous French newspaper, L’Equipe had also reported that Arsenal had agreed a £21 million fee for the little Brazilian, claiming that he will travel to the English capital on Thursday, with his medical scheduled for Friday.
The 21-year old is a very team-centric player who possesses great vision for a killer pass and is also technically very sound. He has an electric change of pace and is very versatile, playing comfortably as a central attacking midfielder or wide on either flank. 163
Yes, he has all the classic hallmarks of an Arsenal player and is probably going to develop into one of Europe’s top playmakers, but is he what Arsenal require at the moment? In my opinion, not really!
We already have Santi Cazorla who does the exact same job for us, and mind you, he’s pretty darn good at it. Even old Tomas Rosicky is very capable of taking over the creative mantle of the team, with Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey also amongst our creative chiefs.
With youngsters Serge Gnabry and Gedion Zelalem also coming up the ranks and not too far from a first-team debut, I just think that Arsenal don’t really need another player of the same type.
Quite honestly, I wouldn’t be too disappointed if we ended up signing the young Brazilian. I just think that at the moment, our priority should be bringing in a world-class striker and a defensive midfielder, not a playmaker!
