Arsenal linked with yet another midfielder with Caicedo out of the running

We are in the Arsenal transfer season, and the news and rumours keep coming thick and fast.

Speculation after speculation suggests that Arteta may field a completely different midfield come the Nottingham Forest game. I know by now you’ve grown tired of speculating on which midfield set-up Arteta could unleash next season. Everyone keeps coming up with different setups day in and day out, but Arteta and Edu’s transfer activities have left us guessing.

It is certain Arsenal’s engine room will have Rice and Odegaard, but whoever plays alongside them is mysterious. Thomas Partey could do so, but trust in the Ghanaian has dwindled, and there’s talk he may leave this summer.

Moises Caicedo seemed like the perfect partner for Rice. But out of nowhere, Arsenal doesn’t want him. Some Gooners still wonder, “If not Caicedo, Who could Rice’s partner be?” As perĀ the Independent, Arteta seems to have identified another Man City talent, Romeo Lavia, who joined the relegated Southampton last year as his ideal partner and the third man in his midfield.

Arsenal has yet to bid for the 19-year-old, unlike Rice’s swoop, but I doubt his swoop could be hard to pull off. The Southampton midfielder is cheaper than Caicedo, whose reports suggest Brighton wants as much as West Ham wants for Rice.

A Lavia-Rice midfield addition may be economical and it may spare Arteta some cash to pull off other deals for the defence and even attack.
