Arsenal boss targets group win AND long run in Champions League

The main reason for Arsenal wanting to finish on top of the Champions League group, apart from ending the frustration of coming second for six years in a row, is to be in pot one when the draw for the knockout stage is made and hopefully get an easier route through to the latter stages.

The Gunners have already secured a place in the next round after Mesut Ozil hit that late winner away to Ludogorets Razgrad, but Arsene Wenger has called on his players to ensure that we do not mess it up at home to the French champions PSG, with any win enough to guarantee us top spot.

The manager told the Arsenal website, “I believe that the two teams have done the job until now. We have done what was expected and we have done it away from home, now we can finish the job at home.

“Of course we want to do it. We played a draw there and it’s just down to us to win the game there.

“[Topping the group would mean] that we have done the job until the end in a convincing way. When you play 1-1 away from home and then you play at home it’s a luxury to be qualified after four games.

“Last year we had to battle until the end and this season we could finish the job after five games. That would mean we have done really well.”

If the boss is right then top spot might be just the start of a good run in the competition that we have struggled to get any further in of late, as have most EPL team. Wenger thinks that the English clubs are now set up to compete more and the recent victory for Man City against Barcelona shows that.

He said, “I feel that, yes.

“Man City winning against Barcelona, we have an opportunity to show it against Paris Saint-Germain.

“Everywhere you go, the difference in the Champions League, the teams all play football. In the Premier league, even if you have 80 per cent possession, you can still lose the game. The pressure on the Premier League games is today massive in the Premier League.

“I must say that I watched Real Madrid against Atletico Madrid on Saturday and I was impressed by them. They looked at the moment to be the most dangerous side.

“We want to show that we can beat any style of team. That’s what we have done since the start of the season. Wednesday we play a team with a different style; a team who play possession, slow and quick.

“We have to show that we can cope with that because they play a lot of possession and then suddenly they play quick with Edinson Cavani, Lucas Moura, they can accelerate a game.

“We have to show we can deal with that style, a different style to what we are used to. In England, we always play with power.”

Do you think the Gunners will cope with this different European style of football and prove Wenger right about this being a better year for Arsenal in the Champions League?

Arsenal IN and Man City OUT but will Ibrahimovic become a Gunner?

There have already been a fair few Arsenal transfer rumours linking the PSG and Sweden star Zlatan Ibrahimovic with a summer move to the Premier League and with former Arsenal players urging Arsene Wenger to make the superstar striker one of his priority signings.

But there was also a theory that Wenger would not want to pay any one player a lot more than the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil and also that Zlatan’s well publicised ego might have put the Frenchman off. Not according to The Sun though, as they are reporting the news, which comes straight from the horse’s mouth as it were, or the mouth of his agent anyway.

The agent of the in demand Ibrahimovic has revealed that all of the top clubs in the Premier League have registered their interest in this summer transfer, except Manchester City. And with the Swede almost certain to demand Champions League football next season, that leaves Arsenal as the clear favourites, assuming that neither Leicester or Tottenham are in the running.

So is Zlatan Ibrahimovic soon to become a Gunner?

Arsenal to miss Ibrahimovic transfer as Man Utd plan MEGA money offer

Despite the reports that Arsenal is the preferred destination of the Swedish international striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, as long as his current club PSG do not decide to extend his contract at the end of the season, it does not necessarily mean that the brilliant striker will be playing for the Gunners next season.

Ibra has already talked up a move to the English Premier League but Arsenal are not the only club that would like him by any means. One of the others is the Manchester United of Louis van Gaal that is currently fighting to get into the top four and gain a place in the Champions League for next year.

And after the Daily Star reported that they were planning to offer the striker a mega money deal worth around £250,000 a week to play at Old Trafford, we can only hope that they fail and that Zlatan does not want to lower himself to playing in the Europa League.

Even if he does not fancy that I think that Arsenal would have to get somewhere near that wage offer and I am struggling to see Wenger and the board agreeing to it. So are we set to miss the transfer of Ibrahimovic to our big spending EPL rivals?

Arsenal to seal last gasp transfer with STUNNING striker signing?

As per usual the Arsenal manager has been saying both before and during the current transfer window that he was open to the signing of top players if only he could find them, but try as he might he just could not identify any available players that would improve the squad.

Maybe he has been right as well, but now that the Metro is reporting that Arsenal are one of a number of clubs to have been offered the PSG and Uruguay centre forward Edinson Cavani, that could well have changed.

Cavani will not come cheap of course, but he is definitely a top quality striker and with Danny Welbeck still not match fit after a long spell in the treatment room, this transfer could be the difference between Arsenal winning the Premier League this season or not.

So will Wenger surprise us after all and give the Arsenal fans something to get excited about on transfer deadline day for once?

Brilliant Brazil star urges Arsenal to make transfer bid

If Arsenal do complete the signing of this Brazil international during the January transfer window, it could spell bad news for the current Gunners Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Joel Campbell, as Lucas Moura would then be in direct competition with the pair for a place in the starting line-up.

And I would expect the dynamic and talented player from the French champions PSG to have the edge over his rivals. There have been Arsenal transfer rumours linking us with the 23-year old before but they seem to be gathering pace with the news coming out of France that Moura is not entirely happy in Paris and with his importance in the plans of Laurent Blanc.

Perhaps that is why he has been talking up a possible move to England and the Premier League, as reported by The Mirror, and dropping a not very subtle hint that he would be amenable to a move in the January transfer window.

The young Brazilian said, “It is clear that the Premier League is very strong.

“If an opportunity comes later and I no longer have the desire to play here, I would take the decision and I would play for another club.

“I’m happy to generate interest from major European clubs, if the interest exists it shows that people trust me and would count on me.”

But is he really the right player for the Gunners to add to the squad next month?

Brilliant Brazilian to say yes to Arsenal transfer?

This particular Arsenal transfer rumour may not be right at the top of Arsene Wenger’s list of priority targets for the January transfer window, but the PSG and Brazil international star Lucas Moura is a top quality player and he would certainly be a great signing for the Gunners.

According to a Metro report, a move could really be on the cards in the winter transfer window. THe report claims that the French champions are willing to let the Brazilian go and the transfer fee of just over £20 million being talked about sounds like quite a bargain to me for a player of Moura’s quality.

He is still just 23-years old and despite his stats and influence being slightly down on last season, this talented player is not exactly playing poorly. He is also said to be ready to move so it seems like Arsenal could really benefit from the situation.

Would you like Arsene Wenger to go for this unexpected transfer when the transfer window opens next month? Or do you think the boss should just focus on strengthening the Arsenal squad in the key areas where injury problems have hit the hardest?

Arsenal to STUN Premier League rivals with Cavani capture!!

Oh how we will laugh Arsenal fans! If the latest Arsenal transfer rumours are true, and there are pictures of Arsene Wenger on a plane to France and in Paris later, and the manager is ready to complete a brilliant transfer deadline day signing that is.

There could even be two PSG players joining Arsenal according to reports but the one that would clearly make the biggest waves would be the Uruguay international striker Edinson Cavani and would surely give us a much larger chance of winning the Premier League this season.. The Daily Star is reporting that we have already had our bid of around £45 million accepted by the French champions.

The other player we are apparently in talks with them about is Adrien Rabiot and getting the talented young central midfielder in to compete with and cover for Coquelin would certainly be a good move. But imagine how sick the likes of Chelsea, Man City, United and Liverpool will be if we get Cavani.

Please make this happen Monsieur Wenger and I will never slate your transfer dealings ever again, or at least not until January.

Arsenal back in for SHOCK Cavani transfer

Reading between the lines, it looks like the Arsenal manager was still hoping that the France international striker Karim Benzema might still be available from Real Madrid, but now that the player himself has poured cold water on those hopes, Arsene Wenger has just a few days to sign a striker that everyone seems to think we need.

But there are not that many out there and the ones that are good enough to really improve our squad are not easy to get. Most are just about impossible, especially at this phase of the transfer window, but apparently there is a chance that PSG might accept a good offer for Edinson Cavani.

So a report in The Telegraph claiming that the Uruguayan is on Wenger´s shopping list might be true. Hopefully the Gunners will be banging in a big offer to the French champions in the next few days. Whether that will be enough to get us the striker or not is anybody´s guess.

WOW! Cavani edges ever closer to Arsenal transfer

Arsenal fans were crying out for Arsene Wenger to sign the Uruguay international striker Edinson Cavani in the summer of 2013. That was a year after the Frenchman had brought in Oliver Giroud and Lukas Podolski after the departure of Robin van Persie and it is safe to say that we were not too impressed.

But Cavani went for around 65 million euros to PSG from his Italian club Napoli and they spent some of that money, too much really, in beating us to another striker in Gonzalo Higuain. Neither have exactly lit up their new clubs, but the Arsenal fans could finally be set to see what all the fuss over Cavani was about.

A Metro report claims that he is almost certainly going to leave the French champions in the summer after his frustration with Laurent Blanc for continually playing him out of position boiled over when he was subbed off in PSG’s game at the weekend.

There will probably be a number of big clubs around Europe interested in taking the powerful centre forward, especially as his transfer fee should now be as low as £40 million. But with Arsenal now having Alexis Sanchez, Welbeck, Walcott and the new and improved Giroud on our books, do we really need him anymore?

Does this mean SHOCK Cavani to Arsenal transfer is DONE DEAL?

There is a bit of news about Edinson Cavani that could mean that Arsenal have played an absolute blinder in the run up to the January transfer window. The Gunners have long been linked with a transfer swoop for the talented striker and according to a Daily Express report, his current club PSG may finally have agreed to let him come to the Premier League and play for Arsenal.

The reason for this belief is threefold. It is common knowledge that the Uruguay international star is not happy at having to play second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovich at the French champions. And we also know that the manager Laurent Blanc’s transfer business has been restricted because of the UEFA Financial Fair Play rules which have seen them face the same sanctions as Man City.

And now Cavani has been left out of the French club’s trip away for warm weather training during the French winter break. And that has tongues wagging in France and the French media putting two and two together. But have they got four, or have they got it all messed up.

One thing is for sure; if Cavani does sign for Arsenal in January, I will be one very happy Gooner.
