Wenger reveals secret behind Arsenal striker’s success

I must admit that I was not convinced at all that the Arsenal experiment of playing Alexis Sanchez in the centre forward position would work and for the first couple of games this season it looked like I was right. I have to say, however, that the Chilean is certainly proving me and all the other doubters wrong.

It seemed that the role was not good for Alexis and when the Gunners had tried it in the past it never worked out, so I expected him to be back on the left side as soon as Arsene Wenger had another option, but the 27-year old striker has improved in each game and is really looking the part now.

Another great striker of ours from the past, Thierry Henry, spoke to his old boss about the new role for Sanchez in a Daily Mail report. Our former forward is a big fan of the new system and he asked Wenger what had made him change things around.

The manager replied, ‘First of all I had big competition up front. I thought Danny Welbeck and Olivier Giroud would play there.

‘I reflected at the end of the season and I decided to try it with Sanchez. He has similarities with (Luis) Suarez. He goes at you.

‘Remember at the start many people questioned the decision. The few times I had tried him there before he was not convincing. In the first two games I was not convinced but now game after game he is growing into this position and getting better and better.’

We can all remember the infamous attempt by Wenger to get Suarez and with the crazy transfer fees being paid for strikers this summer it seems that Wenger’s idea was to get a Suarez like striker without having to break the bank. So far it is working out nicely, so is Wenger’s masterplan going to help Arsenal end our long wait for the title?

Koscielny comeback the key to Arsenal beating Barcelona?

Make no mistake Arsenal fans, we have very little chance of getting past the current La Liga and Champions League holders Barcelona and into the next round. Even if we do manage to win the match it will not be enough unless we score at least three goals and win by two.

A 2-0 scoreline would, at least, take us to extra time and you can just about see Arsenal managing to score two or three against Barca if the likes of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez are on the ball. It is at the other end where our biggest problem lies though, as Arsene Wenger explained in a report on the Arsenal website.

He said, “I believe that the key for us will be a solid defensive performance. The advantage in our position is that the task is clear – we have to attack.

“We will do that but with the magicians of Barcelona will have to make sure that we give a remarkable defensive performance.

“We fought very hard to be in the Champions League. We made a miracle [against Olympiacos] so now we are in a position where we have to deliver something special. I’m convinced that for the rest of the season, it would be a big boost for us to have a great game here.

“At the moment, we are not favourites – we deal with that. But no matter how big the chance we have is, I think the Premier League is quite open, much more than people think it is. In the Champions League at the moment we have a very small chance but let’s give our best on Wednesday – you never know.”

The boss knows that it will take an amazing defensive performance from the Gunners to stop the Barcelona front three of Messi, Neymar and Suarez, who have already scored more than 100 goals between them this season. So it was great news this week that our best defender Laurent Koscielny is fit again after a short injury lay-off.

Koscielny’s co9meback has perhaps doubled our chances to around 10 percent but will his inclusion in the starting line up prove to be crucial or just a side note?

Arsenal and Cech’s BIG reasons to believe they can stop Barcelona scoring

Arsenal fans are under no illusions about the size of the task facing the Gunners in the Champions League this evening, with Barcelona having claimed a historic second continental treble last season and with their front three of Messi, Neymar and Suarez in devastating form both individually and as an attacking trident.

But if anyone should feel a bit less fear about facing the Barca front three it is Arsenal and particularly our new keeper Petr Cech. The Czech Republic international has an amazing and encouraging record against the best player in the world and the winner of the Ballon D’Or, as he has faced Messi no fewer than six times while playing for Chelsea and the little Argentinean has never managed to beat Cech.

Messi even missed a penalty against the big keeper in a Champions League semi-final and that suggests that the complex that the Barca striker might have could really be there. As reported by The Mirror though, it is not just Messi that has struggled against our number one, as between then the Barca forwards have played 11 games against Cech and only managed to score two goals.

That certainly gives us reason for hope, although none of these games involved Arsenal. However, when Suarez was sweeping all before him in a Liverpool shirt, he did not enjoy himself against us, managing just two goals against the Gunners during his four seasons in England and neither of those goals helped his side to a win over us.

Can we keep this remarkable record going tonight?

BOOM! It’s Barca! But it´s not all bad for Arsenal in UCL

Okay Arsenal fans, there is no way that we can say that we wanted to be drawn against the Catalan club Barcelona for the knockout phase of the Champions League. They are the holders after all and with the fearsome front three of Messi, Neymar and Suarez breaking all sorts of records last year, Barca managed to also win La Liga and the Spanish cup to give them a terrific treble.

So the Gunners are right up against it, no doubt. But we should not assume that the last 16 will be as far as we go for a sixth season in a row. Barcelona are a top class side and they are rightly one of the favourites, but they are not unbeatable.

Are they better than Bayern Munich? Sometimes yes and sometimes no and Arsenal have already beaten the German champions this season and we did it when they were absolutely flying and in their very best form. And there is no reason to assume that Barcelona will be in their best form when the Champions League games come around.

They have already struggled a few times this year, such as the weekend just gone when despite being at full strength they were held at home by Deportivo and that was their third draw in a row. They were absolutely torn apart by Bilbao in the Spanish super cup.

Do not write Arsenal off yet.

OUCH! Rodgers rocked by REAL reason Alexis chose Arsenal

It was great for Arsenal fans at the time, hearing that Alexis Sanchez had snubbed a Liverpool transfer in favour of a move to the Emirates stadium, even though Liverpool’s star striker was heading in the opposite direction. And the Frenchman has this week admitted that he was worried about whether Brendan Rodgers would have the advantage in the Sanchez chase because of that.

After the taunting and disrespectful words flung in our direction when the manager thought their was a release clause in the Suarez contract and tried to activate it, it made it all the sweeter that Alexis became a Gunner, with Rodgers showing some sour grapes by claiming it was living in London that made the difference, not playing for Arsenal.

So Rodgers may not like the report in The Mirror today that reveals the real reason for the Chilean’s decision, according to a source close to the Arsenal front man. Not only did he see the Gunners as the bigger club, but he saw Wenger as the better man to work with.

The source revealed, ““Alexis based his decision on a number of factors.

“The fact that Arsenal is a top club and Arsene Wenger is a top manager were two of them.”

Now all we need to complete the misery of Liverpool and their boss is for Alexis to lead Arsenal to a famous victory at Anfield today….. Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

Alexis success convinces Barca star to seek £26m Arsenal transfer

The way that Alexis Sanchez has not just settled into life as an Arsenal player, but blown everyone away, Gunners and the football watching public alike, has been pretty incredible. And it has not gone unnoticed on the continent either, especially in Spain’s La Liga where the 25-year old forward used to ply his trade.

Only this week there was an article in one of the Catalan newspapers berating FC Barcelona for their decision to let the Chilean live wire leave for London in the summer. They compared Alexis to three of the current Barca front line, Munir El Haddadi and Sanro Ramirez and Pedro, declaring that Barca had been daft to allow the Chilean to leave as he has scored almost three times as many goals this season as all three of those Barca forwards.

But the reason Alexis wanted to leave was because of the competition to play, with Lionel Messi, Neymar and now Luis Suarez ahead of him in the pecking order. For the last few years, Alexis and Pedro had contested for that wide forward position and according to a Metro, the two could soon be competing again for a place in the Arsenal starting XI.

The report claims that Pedro has been so impressed with how well his former team mate has settled into life at Arsenal and the Premier League, that he wants a taste of it himself. And the paper claims that Arsene Wenger is aware of the situation and is readying a £26 million bid to bring the Spanish striker to the Emirates in January.

Don’t worry Arsenal – Anderlecht have even BIGGER problems

It is understandable that many Arsenal fans are so concerned about the poor run of results so far this season, with just two wins from eight Premier League games and an early exit from the Capital One Cup, that there is very little confidence that the Gunners can come back to north London with three Champions League points tonight.

And this belief has not been helped by the injury to the Colombian reserve keeper David Ospina, meaning that rookie Martinez is set to make his Champions League debut because of Wojciech Szczesny being suspended. But even though Laurent Koscielny has joined Olivier Giroud, Mesut Ozil, Mathieu Debuchy and others on the sidelines, Arsenal’s problems pale in comparison with those facing our opponents Anderlecht, as revealed in a Daily Star report.

The Belgian club do not have anywhere near the resources of Arsenal, so their own long injury list means that the manager Besnik Hasi will have to face the Gunners with two unfit and out of form strikers, with their £4 million record signing Aleksandr Mitrovic struggling with a weight problem and his strike partner Matias Suarez carrying a knee problem that caused him to fail a medical at CSKA Moscow this summer.

And they have just as many problems at the other end of the pitch, with just one fully fit and first choice defender available. So Arsenal have a great chance to take advantage. We can’t mess this one up can we?

Arsenal boss on why Alexis Sanchez transfer was a bargain!

Alright, so we do not yet know the exact amount of money that it cost Arsenal to secure the signature of Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona. But even taking away the fact that it rubbed the noses of Liverpool, their fans and former players in it, Arsene Wenger clearly feels that he has got a really good deal done.

The Frenchman has been talking to Arsenal Player about his new signing, and he has backed the Chile international to prove himself to be a real star in the Premier League. Sanchez, says the Prof, not only has all the attributes to survive and thrive at the top level, he is perfect for the Premier League as well.

That is because the 25-year old has plenty of power and aggression to go with his undoubted speed and technical ability. It sounds like Wenger sees some of Luis Suarez in him as well, the striker he tried to sign last summer and whose transfer to Barcelona has opened the door for us to get Sanchez. That South American will to win. Maybe we will see Wenger bring more players in from that continent in the future.

The Prof said, “The fact that he’s efficient, the fact that he’s good off the ball. He runs at people with the ball and he’s a very versatile striker.

“He can play through the middle, he can play on both flanks and he has the qualities that I think are needed in England. He’s brave, works hard and all these qualities together made me go for him.

“At the moment he might play on the flank because Walcott is injured. As well [he can play] through the middle in some games; we can play with Giroud, we can play without Giroud in a 4-4-2 or in a 4-3-3.

“That’s why he is a major signing for us [and] that’s why we spend a lot of money on him. He has the quality to be efficient everywhere he plays.

“We have seen at the World Cup the South American teams have shown a great passion, great desire and true love for the game. That is a very important quality in the success of a player.

“Our society maybe doesn’t give a natural toughness anymore as much as South American society does and it’s always an asset in your life when you have to work hard to get where you are. It means at least you are capable of finding the resources to do it.”

I am sure the boss is right and cannot wait to see Sanchez tearing up the Premier League and Europe for the Gunners.

Why Liverpool are HELPING Arsenal to sign Sanchez!

It seems strange, I know, but the hopes of Arsenal signing the Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez, are actually getting a big boost from our Premier League rivals. Not on purpose, of course, because Brendan Rodgers wanted the Barca star himself, but I will explain.

Various media sources are reporting that Liverpool have agreed a fee with Barcelona for their vampiric Uruguayan front man, Luis Suarez. The numbers being reported vary between £60-80 million, but they seem to agree on the problem stopping the transfer being completed, and that is the method of payment.

A Metro report reveals that the BPL club want the money up front, or at least most of it and that is where Sanchez comes in. Barca are happy to sell their striker, but they need to do it quickly now in order to release the funds for Suarez. Maybe that is why Arsene Wenger is apparently haggling over the price, knowing that he holds all the cards. Don’t push it, though, Arsene, will you, because all of a sudden somebody else could come along with a better offer.

The paper also claims that the Gunners latest offer for the 25-year old star is around £26 million, which is about what they paid Udinese for him three years ago. If Liverpool have lowered their price for Suarez a bit, this will also help Arsenal to get our transfer done at a better price, so should be thanking the scousers? That is bound to wind them up a treat!

Balotelli is coming to Premier League but NOT with Arsenal

It would be just about typical of Arsenal’s luck if Mario Balotelli comes back to the Premier League and all of a sudden starts to behave himself and produce the sort of form he is capable of on a regular basis.

After being strongly linked with the AC Milan striker recently, the Arsenal boss poured cold water on the rumours. It still seemed as if there had been interest from the Gunners, though, and the Italy international was reported to be keen on a return to England.

The Italian media claimed that Balotelli was not happy with the lack of support from his Serie A club after Italy were knocked out of the World Cup finals in Brazil, when he seemed to be made the scapegoat for all the failings of the national team.

If Mario was pushing for a transfer to Arsenal, he must have realised that it was not going to happen and I cannot fault Arsene Wenger for his decision. As talented as the 23-year old is, he does not show it enough and is just too much of a risk for Arsenal.

But Liverpool seem to love having a nutter up front and The Express are reporting that the Anfield club are looking to sign Balotelli if their own resident bad boy Luis Suarez goes to play in La Liga, as seems likely.

Will Arsenal regret not signing the Italian or will Liverpool be the club with the regrets?
