Bad news for Giroud as Arsenal plan another striker transfer

The Arsenal and France international centre forward Olivier Giroud is already struggling to get a start this season, at club level anyway as he seems to still be in favour with his national coach Didier Deschamps. The problem Giroud has in north London, though, is that the current first choice centre forward Alexis Sanchez is playing so well that Arsene Wenger really has no option but to keep starting him.

Giroud has done brilliantly in recent weeks coming off the bench but even his place there could soon be in danger if the recent Arsenal transfer rumours are right. Already this week the Gunners have been linked with moves for two different strikers in the January transfer window.

One of those is the Germany international Julian Draxler who seems determined to leave his current Bundesliga club Wolfsburg according to a report in The Mirror. Although Draxler is not a central striker his signing would make it even less likely that the Chilean would go back on the flank.

Even more worrying for the big Frenchman, however, is the Metro report about Arsene Wenger lining up a £20 million bid for the AC Milan and Colombia striker Carlos Bacca, as he does play through the middle and is in good scoring form for his Serie A club.

Is Giroud set to slide even further down the Arsenal strikers pecking order?

Arsenal to lose TWO transfer targets to EPL rivals?

With results and performances starting to get better for Arsenal, the manager’s claim the other day that the Gunners should not be written out of the race for the English Premier League title just yet is not looking quite as blindly optimistic as before.

And with the Champions League and FA cup trophies to play for as well, Arsenal fans will still be hoping for another piece of silverware to celebrate at the end of the season. But Arsene Wenger will also know that a key signing or two in the January transfer window will go a long way to helping to achieve that goal.

So the news in The Mirror that Arsenal could be set to lose out on two top transfer targets is not what we want to see. And the claim that it could be two of our big EPL rivals that swoop for Pedro Rodriguez and Julian Draxler makes it even more of a concern.

Struggling Liverpool are said to be very keen on the Barcelona and Spain international forward and they are apparently willing to match his La Liga club’s £25 million valuation. And big spending Man United are willing to throw more big money at Schalke to beat the Gunners to Draxler, who is currently injured but is supposed to be fit again by January.

REVEALED the truth behind Arsenal’s January transfer failure

After a shocking start to last season, when Arsenal lost at home to Aston Villa, launching a furious reaction towards Arsene Wenger from the fans, everything changed. Aaron Ramsey left us all with our mouths hanging open with his form and goals, Wenger did the same by smashing the club’s transfer record for Mesut Ozil, and the Gunners stormed to the top of the Premier League table.

But as the January transfer window loomed, injuries were ravaging the Frenchman’s player options. Then we lost Ramsey and Theo Walcott before the new year and all of us expected the boss to sign some players in January, even if they were only short term solutions. There was Dimitar Berbatov, but we passed on the Bulgarian, as everything seemed to be pointing towards the stellar signing of another Germany international.

But Julian Draxler did not arrive from Schalke and Arsenal ended up with just one little known, and amazingly already injured, central midfielder. Many fans think that Wenger’s failure to act in the transfer market cost Arsenal the title, and there were rumours that he had baulked at the price tag for Draxler, but it seems not.

The Daily Mail have reported that the player himself vetoed the move to north London. The 20-year old wanted to stay with his Bundesliga club, and says he will do for at least one more year, as he really learns his trade before moving to a bigger club.

Draxler said, “In January there was the offer of Arsenal, but I decided to stay. I will do the same this summer. I want to play one year more in Schalke.”

So maybe we should be a little more understanding of Wenger and hope he has more luck in the coming season and transfer windows.

Draxler unlikely to join Arsenal this summer

Schalke general manager Horst Heldt has insisted he is confident Julian Draxler will stay with Schalke despite Arsenal being linked with a summer move for the Germany international. The 20-year old has been linked with a number of European clubs since impressing in the Schalke side, with Arsenal and Bayern Munich both well backed by Betfair fans of holding an interest in the midfielder.

Arsenal were rumoured to have made a move for Draxler in the closing stages of the January transfer window only to be told in no uncertain terms by the Bundesliga side that the playmaker wasn’t for sale. The North Londoners were expected to make a fresh move for the German at the end of the season, but Schalke have made it clear they are still confident Draxler will still be at the club next season despite Betfair visitors backing the Gunners to sign the 20-year old this summer.

“I definitely believe that he will be staying at our club for the new season. (Draxler) is an important player in our squad, he is playing regular matches and he is doing quite well,” said Heldt.

Draxler has four years left on his current contract with Schalke, although Arsenal would trigger a release clause in the midfielder’s deal if they bid £35million. With a new striker very much top of Arsene Wenger’s shopping list this summer, according to Betfair tipsters, it remains to be seen whether the Arsenal boss will be willing to shell out over £30millon for another midfielder.

Draxler has made 10 appearances for Germany since making his debut in 2012, and the attacking midfielder is expected to be in the squad that sets of for the World Cup in Brazil this summer. Joachim Low’s 23-man squad have been backed by a number of Betfair fans ahead of the World Cup, with some believing the Germans will head to South American as Europe’s best hope of success.

If it takes Podolski to get Draxler, should Arsenal do it?

Reports coming out of the transfer gossip columns suggests a new turn in the tables for Arsenal’s interest in young German international Julian Draxler. Draxler has been linked with the Gunners for a substantial amount of the January transfer window and before, but as of yet nothing on the subject seems to have changed. But with less than 10 days now remaining in the window, Arsenal fans will be desperately hoping Arsene Wenger can pull off another big money deal, even if it follows the fashion of the summer 2013 deadline day.

So far, Arsenal has supposedly offered around £35 million to Schalke for Draxler, which was reportedly rejected. However due to the fact this news wasn’t picked up by the likes of the BBC and Sky Sports, I would suggest that there was probably little truth in that bid. I think there is probably little more than registered interest at this stage from Arsenal, although Schalke will be more than aware of how desperate the Gunners are for their young sensation.

This has led to the latest reports coming from the national newspapers that suggest Arsenal could be willing to offer Lukas Podolski plus money for Draxler, which would see one German leave the club for another. The Sun newspaper reports that a £20 million deal plus Podolski could be offered to the German club, whilst other reports from the Metro and Daily Mail suggest other similar offers.

Although the media seems collective in stating Arsenal’s interest that lack of significant truth in the sums involved suggests that there’s nothing really too concrete in this move and that Arsenal fans shouldn’t start getting too excited, at least for the time being. Personally I think Podolski is worth well in excess of £13 million, especially if De Bruyne has just been sold for £17 million by Chelsea. Therefore a value of Podolski and over £20m is just far too much for Draxler despite his potential ability.

Prices may be inflated in January but there is no way that the Gunners should be looking to spend such money and besides that surely I’m not the only one who still believes Podolski can do a good job for the team. Should we even offer them Podolski or just more cash?

Schalke star Draxler hints at imminent Arsenal transfer!!

If you watched the international friendly game of England vs Germany then you may not have seen much of Julian Draxler apart from when the youngster made his way onto the pitch. However let me reassure you that this young German international is well on his way to greatness and has been labelled as one of the game’s most upcoming gems for some time now.

Interestingly in regards to Draxler, he has been linked with a move to Arsenal several times already in his career and although it may seem natural considering every young player usually ends up being linked with the Gunners, there is something different about this case because Draxler continues to talk about Arsenal on every opportunity he gets.

Draxler was first linked with Arsene Wenger’s army a few years ago when he just broke into the Schalke O4 team. Now a regular the latest rumours suggested that Le Prof was weighing up a £30 million move on transfer deadline day of the window just gone.

The consistent speculation regarding his future was then heightened when he revealed that he turned down a few Premier League clubs, with Arsenal believed to be one of them. However if there does become a tug of war for the now full German international, Arsenal won’t have too much to worry about in terms of convincing him, because he seems pretty keen on Arsenal already.

In a Q&A session with the BBC before kick off yesterday, Draxler made an incredible five different references to Arsenal, increasing speculation that not only does he recognise the club’s quality but also that perhaps he has an interest in joining the Gunners.

Draxler mentioned three Arsenal players including Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil, whilst he also complimented the Gunners’ form as well as the fact that he clearly sees Arsenal as one of the biggest clubs in England.

I think if Draxler wants to come to Arsenal then it would be a stupid opportunity to turn down. He is true quality and is only ever going to improve, my only concern is that at what is sure to be a very pricey expense, is he worth it considering the fact we already have a fair few wingers and attack minded players already in the team?

Did Draxler snub Arsenal on Transfer Deadline Day?

Arsenal fans were left more than happy on transfer deadline day this summer, with the singing of Mesut Ozil being officially confirmed in the final hours of the night, but one possible name we could have seen at the Emirates now is Julian Draxler. But recently it’s been reported that these following quotes state why he rejected the chance to move on deadline day!

Draxler stated: “The World Cup is at the end of the season and you always need time to get used to a new team. On top of that, I’m convinced I’m at the right club with Schalke. We haven’t had a great start to the campaign and I was a bit disappointed after the first few games. But I think we took another important step forward after signing Kevin-Prince Boateng. We’ve got a strong team. I want to be in the first team with my club and take on more responsibility. That’s the only way I can play myself into contention for the national team.”

Julian Draxler has been associated as an Arsenal transfer target for one or two years now after his talent became very clear to many and so ultimately Arsene Wenger and Arsenal began to track the youngster on his progress. Draxler has quickly turned into one of the best young players in the world at this moment in time and in terms of previous player’s progress stages at his age, some people would go as far to suggest that he is better than Ronaldo was at the same age.

Although I’m not too sure if I can agree with that statement, the young German international midfielder is still exceptionally talented and that’s the reason behind his £40 million valuation. Draxler currently plays for German side Schalke and was linked with Arsenal heavily in the last few days of the window, with speculation arising Arsenal were set to bid around £40 million on the young German international midfielder. The reports were wrong; they just caught the wrong name choosing Draxler over Ozil.

However it was the other way round in reality with Arsenal turning towards Ozil rather than his German companion and overall I think the majority of fans would be more than happy with that. I certainly wouldn’t have paid £40m for Draxler no matter the potential because there is a massive risk in his potential, whereas, although Ozil is still young at 24, he also has experience in the footballing world’s biggest level as well as for one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Overall the way to look at it is that although we didn’t sign the talented Draxler, we secured Ozil instead and so ultimately I think nine out of ten Arsenal fans would be more than happy with that!

Arsenal transfer boost from Draxler but Price is too high…. as usual

Arsenal have been linked with a lot of players in the build-up to the final week of the summer transfer window, as Arsene Wenger looks around the market for a lot of players, and although the Real Madrid players in Benzema, Di Maria, Ozil and Casillas clearly stand out the most, one story that has developed a lot over the past week is Arsenal’s enquiry for Julian Draxler.

For those of you that aren’t aware, Draxler is supposed to be the biggest young talent in world football right now. Forget Jack Wilshere and Mario Gotze, Julian Draxler is meant to have hit the same heights as Real Madrid superstar Cristano Ronaldo, when he was 19.

Because of this he has a very high valuation by his club Schalke 04 and the price tag is believed to be in the region of 40 million euros, according to John Cross in the Mirror. Roughly exchanging to £35 million, and that is an awful lot of money Wenger would be spending on one player, especially considering he is so young and just filled with nothing but potential. I understand that clubs such as Barcelona pay that much for someone like Neymar, because he is slightly older and he has already shown serious talent. But for me Draxler, although he is talented, hasn’t really shown it to the world and made football supporters stand back and watch in amazement.

But anyway, Wenger seems to have a serious interest in him and according to sources that cited Gazidis flew out personally to talk with Schalke, instead of attending the Champions League draw, Wenger has stated he is willing to go into advanced negotiations for the player. Schalke officials made it very clear he wasn’t for sale, however Draxler may have stunned them by saying he could well leave, as reported by Goal.com.

He said, “I don’t mind people speculating, I’ll let them have their fun. If nothing extraordinary happens, I will be here on Monday. But Schalke could change their mind and say ‘Well, 40 or 30 million euros is not so bad,’ and then I can’t do much about it. If the club absolutely wants to sell me, I will not say ‘No, I want to stay.'”

It sounds quite promising from the player, but I seriously doubt Arsenal will sign this young German international in the end, especially as he has already supposedly turned down Madrid and Barcelona this summer.

These 3 signings in 3 days – Can Arsenal Do It?

As I write this, there are only 3 days left in the window and aside from Arsenal’s interest in Draxler last night, there’s nothing else going on at the club, looking in from the outside. Maybe they are being super secretive. I was hoping we’d bring in 5 proper signings at the beginning of the week and with every passing day, my hopes are dwindling. However, we still can bring in players for 3 positions of sufficient quality. Here are my suggestions:

Striker
Obviously, we desperately need a striker at the moment and a good one. There isn’t much left for us to choose from but we could still persuade Man Utd to sell Rooney if we put in a decent bid soon. There’s even Jackson Martinez available on the market for around £30million. We just need to be decisive and pay the money the selling club wants. There isn’t any more time to negotiate.

Winger
After selling Gervinho and losing both Chamberlain and Podolski to 3 month long injuries, we are desperate for another winger at the moment. There has been rumours from quite a few papers that we are very interested in the prospect of signing Di Maria but there is a hold up as Spurs aren’t willing to sell Bale until the very last moment so we can’t buy the Argentinian from Madrid. There is also the rumours of Draxler who can play on the wings, as a no.10 and as a striker.

Centre Back
With all these injuries, I still feel we are short in defence. We need to bring in another centre back that can compete with Vermaelen for 3rd choice CB. The choices are dwindling with the likes of Sakho and Alderweireld all moving. However we can still move for the likes of Ginter if we offer the right type of money.

It is looking pretty ominous as an Arsenal fan. The pool of players to choose from is dwindling and teams are going to jack up their prices the closer it gets to end of the window because they’ll know of our desperation. I’m just hoping we have enough about us to bring in 3 players in those positions mentioned to at least make us outside title contenders. Will we do it though?

Just how realistic are Arsenal transfer links with Draxler and Kalou?

Arsenal have been linked with a whole host of players over the course of this summer, from the likes of Real Madrid’s Angel Di Maria and Mesut Ozil, all the way down to some unknown French midfielder from Ligue 2 side Angers FC, but the recent rumours that stand out from the others are links for both Julian Draxler and Salomon Kalou.

Now firstly, the main suggested players still feature the quadruple of Real Madrid players we seem to have an interest in, in Karim Benzema, Mesut Ozil, Angel Di Maria and Iker Casillas. All would be fantastic signings and imagine if we brought all four into the club by the end of the window.

However sadly for Arsenal fans, it seems to be nothing but a dream, and that’s what the next link seems to be in Julian Draxler!

The young German wonder kid has been linked with Arsenal for the last few days, with suggestions that the Gunners have made an enquiry for the midfielder. However I say it is nothing but a dream because the likelihood of Arsenal signing Draxler is ridiculously small. Draxler is valued at over £40 million by his club Schalke 04 in Germany, and Wenger only just plucked up the courage to bid that sort of money on Suarez, so why would he spend that amount on a player that holds nothing more than bags of potential.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see the versatile and tricky midfielder at Arsenal, however for £40 million, they won’t be getting our money, not to mention that the young German has supposedly turned down offers from the two Spanish giants already this summer.

The other player mentioned was Salomon Kalou, and the reason why I find this link so interesting is because like Lyon and French international midfielder Yoann Gourcuff, not a single transfer window goes by without Arsenal being linked for this player and so it interested me that the link came up once again.

However this time around there was a little bit more to add to the suggestion, with information stating that he has a £2.6 million release clause. This states three things to me; one, Wenger will be interested. Two, it’s a well affordable price and three; such a low release clause would suggest he isn’t very good. I think we can all agree that all three aspects are completely true and would you be entirely surprised to see Kalou sign? Although I think it’s unlikely, it’s still very plausible and so we will have to see if this moves any further but for now, it seems like Arsenal have dried up on the transfer front once again.
